A DIFC Will lets non-Muslim residents and UAE asset owners register a common-law-based will covering property, business shares, financial assets and guardianship of minor children, recognised in Dubai and Ras Al Khaimah courts. Non-residents can complete registration remotely via video-link signing. Registration and drafting assistance costs vary by will type and complexity, contact our team for a tailored quote. This page is general information only, not legal advice, and a qualified lawyer should always be consulted for drafting your will.

    Why It Matters

Why non-Muslims in Dubai need a registered will

Without a registered will, a non-Muslim resident's UAE assets can, in practice, be distributed according to default inheritance rules under onshore law, and accounts and property can be frozen while the estate is processed, sometimes leaving surviving spouses and children in a difficult position. A DIFC Will gives non-Muslims a common-law-based route to register a will that names beneficiaries, guardians for minor children and executors on their own terms, recognised across Dubai and Ras Al Khaimah.

    Choosing Your Route

DIFC Wills vs Dubai Courts Wills vs ADJD Wills

    DIFC Wills

Common-law process in English, aimed at expatriates and non-Muslims, registered with the DIFC Wills Service Centre and recognised in Dubai and Ras Al Khaimah.

    Dubai Courts Wills

A civil-law-based route administered directly by Dubai Courts, with its own registration process and documentation requirements.

    ADJD Wills

The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department offers its own non-Muslim will registration route for assets and residents connected to Abu Dhabi.

    Choose Your Own Beneficiaries

Name exactly who inherits your UAE assets, rather than relying on default onshore succession rules.

    Guardianship for Minor Children

Name a guardian of your choosing for minor children, a critical protection many families overlook.

    Faster Asset Release

A Grant of Probate from the DIFC Courts generally speeds up releasing assets to your named executor.

Frequently Asked, and Ready When You Are

DIFC Wills, answered, plus a direct line to our team

Why do I need a will in Dubai if I'm not Muslim?+
Without a registered will, a non-Muslim's UAE assets can be distributed under onshore default inheritance provisions rather than according to your own wishes, and bank accounts or property can be frozen while the estate is processed. A DIFC Will gives you a common-law-based way to control who inherits, name guardians for minor children, and speed up how your estate is handled.
What types of DIFC Wills are available?+
The DIFC Wills Service Centre offers several will types, including a Full Will covering all UAE assets, a Property Will for a single UAE property, a Guardianship Will for naming guardians of minor children, a Business Owners Will for shares in a UAE company, and a Financial Assets Will for bank accounts and investments.
    Can non-residents register a DIFC Will remotely?+
Yes. Non-residents can register a DIFC Will through a video-link signing appointment without travelling to the UAE in person, provided identity verification and witnessing requirements are met, making it accessible for UAE property or asset owners living abroad.
What is the difference between DIFC Wills, Dubai Courts Wills and ADJD Wills?+
DIFC Wills follow a common-law process aimed at expatriates and non-Muslims, are in English, and are registered with the DIFC Wills Service Centre for recognition in Dubai and Ras Al Khaimah courts. Dubai Courts Wills and Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) Wills are civil-law-based alternatives administered directly by the local judicial authorities, with their own registration processes, languages and court recognition scope, so the right choice depends on where your assets are and your personal circumstances.
What happens after death if I have a registered DIFC Will?+
On death, the executor named in the will applies to the DIFC Courts for a Grant of Probate. Once granted, the executor can present this to UAE banks, the Dubai Land Department and other institutions to release and distribute assets according to the will's instructions, generally a faster process than intestate onshore succession.
Can I amend or revoke my DIFC Will later?+
Yes. A DIFC Will can be amended through a codicil or fully revoked and replaced with a new will at any time while you have capacity, which is important to do after major life events such as marriage, divorce, a new child or acquiring new UAE assets.
What documents do I need to register a DIFC Will?+
You will generally need a valid passport, Emirates ID or visa page if applicable, details of your assets and beneficiaries, and the drafted will itself, along with two witnesses present (in person or via the approved video-link process) at signing.
